  I've been a patient of DHS Tacoma since 2000, back when Dr. Wagonfeld was still practicing. Now am a patient of Dr. Holderman. I've been very pleased with the service and treatment as a patient in this clinic, until now. I've been trying for months to get in for an appointment with my provider, which is impossible since he is booked out for one full year, as I've been told by a "scheduling representative". Alternative providers have been suggested but are 2-6 months out. Finally, I spoke to a "scheduling representative" who was able to get me in about a week out. Was under the impression that this was with my provider as I wasn't even told who I was seeing. Wound up seeing a PA-C that I've never seen, and turns out was a pain specialist at an orthopedic clinic, not a GI specialist. He was uninterested in what I was telling him and didn't understand what type of surgeries I had in the past. He did order labs though. Problem is, the clinic didn't even have the common courtesy to let me know what the results were. But he wasted no time ordering me a medication with a $600.00 co-pay without even discussing it with the patient first. Then when I called to speak to the nursing staff, I was redirected to someone at a call center who wouldn't transfer me to speak to a nurse, but said she would relay a message to the nurse. No call back. Called again on my lunch break and got the same treatment, and was told they don't typically return calls for 24-48 hours. Again, no call back. So, I had to go see my primary care doctor this morning to have him get the labs and find out why this medication was ordered in the first place. And no return call a day later. If this is what DHS has become, it's a shame and it's unacceptable. I'm a nurse myself, and if I treated my patients like this, I would be reprimanded or fired. I have great respect for my specialist and the procedure staff, but you need to get back to treating patients like they matter. Get rid of the call center and speak to your patients when they have legitimate concerns. Because if we can't get in for months, people are going to go elsewhere. I may just do that, which I hate to do.
